Tooth Paste For Sensitive teeth

What’s In Your Toothpaste?

Toothpaste helps to clean your teeth and keep your breath fresh. But there are different kinds of toothpaste for different, specific purposes, from toothpaste that meets the needs of a young child to toothpaste for sensitive teeth. Here’s a closer look at the ingredients in toothpaste and how they work.

Basic Toothpaste Ingredients

Toothpaste ingredients can be split into two categories: active and inactive. Active ingredients are those that have a therapeutic effect or make the toothpaste "work." Inactive ingredients improve the taste or ease of use of the toothpaste. Common inactive ingredients include flavoring and thickening agents, abrasives and detergents.

Specific Ingredients For Sensitive Teeth

While most toothpastes have similar basic ingredients, some contain an extra active ingredient to treat specific problems such as sensitive teeth. If you suffer from sensitive teeth, here are two ingredients to look for:

1. Potassium Nitrate. Potassium ions help to prevent nerves in your teeth from sending pain signals to yor brain triggered by certain stimuli, such as sensations of hot and cold. Potassium nitrate is known as a "nerve calming” ingredient.

2. Stannous Fluoride. Stannous fluoride reacts with your tooth enamel to produce a repairing or robust layer over the vulnerable areas of your teeth. This protective layer helps shield against pain caused by sensitivity.

If you suffer from sensitive teeth, consider visiting your dentist. He or she can help identify the underlying causes of your tooth pain and recommend toothpaste that's best for you.
